The knowledge of doing the right thing at the right time is very important and has a huge impact on a person life. The key to proper date selection is to be clear about the purpose for which the date is being selected for. This is crucial as each day has its own energy (qi ) and this energy has to be supportive of the intended purpose for which the date is being selected.

Let me share with you one of the many methods used by the Chinese in date selection- 12 Officers on duty (known also as Jianchu /Gin Choi / Master Dong’s method). This system has days assigned for particular events and follows a 12 days cycle. Date selection is made in correlation with the event suitable for that particular day.

In the Chinese alamanac, there are 12 deities governing each day. 

The 12 officers are as follows:

Officer Application
Establishment (Jian) Applicable for embarking on something new, marriage, renovation
Removal(Chu) Applicable for terminations of any kind.
Full(Man) Good day to get what you want in full, eg. collect debts.
Balance(Ping) Useful for activities that benefits mutually
Stability(Ding) Useful for starting on long term projects
Initiate(Zhi) A good day to deliver a motivational talk or teach.
Destruction(Po) Good for termination of contracts and pulling down of house.
Danger(Wei) A bad day to travel.
Success(Cheng) Generally auspicious except for removal or confrontational activities.
Harvest(Shou) A good day to harvest or collect payment.
Opening(Kai) Generally suitable for most activities except removal related activities.
Close(Bi) Avoid all important activities except closing for renovation or break.
